As the super creative woman that she is, my mother, Mrs. P. Margareten, would come up with an impressive theme for Purim year after year. This always added an extra layer of sparkle to our Purims. As I grew older, I joined in the brainstorming. We always made sure that our theme would connect to something about Purim or the Megillah. It gave us something interesting to think about during the bleak winter weeks leading up to the holiday. Today, I happily carry on the tradition in my own home.
The mitzvah of mishloach manos is but one faction of Purim. One can fulfill his or her obligation with an apple and an orange as it’s said they often did in the good old days. To the best of my knowledge there are no extra brownie points awarded by the Almighty for concocting creative mishloach manos. However, Purim does provide a great creative outlet for those seeking one and thereby brings lots of joy- an integral part of this special day.
This site serves as a sort of scrapbook of our family’s Purim themes throughout the years. Please take a look around and be sure to let us know what you think of our work.
